Entertainment Magazine Analysis

Image
The main image is in the centre of the cover with all of the cover lines, not overlapping the main portion of the face. The title of the magazine is in large, bold text at the top of the poster in a font that would typically be associated with he horror genre which will immediately tell the audience what the magazine is going to be based on. It also looks like blood is dripping down from the letters which adds to this association of horror. There is also blood splats throughout the cover to add the same effect.  The magazine cover mainly consists of the colours red and black which are conventionally used in horror as they represent blood and death etc.  The word 'dead' has skulls inside the letters 'D'. This can be used to also add effect to the cover as it also gives visual insights into what is in the magazine other than just the text itself.  This cover also includes a website in the top right to allow the audience to access more information about the magaz...

Target Audience Analysis

Primary Target Audience: My primary target audience would be 16-25 year-olds. These would also be those who are interested in the horror genre. Demographically, they are most likely to be in the lower-middle class in society as stereotypically the upper class don't spend their time watching TV; if they did it would be something like drama or romance genres. They are also more likely going to be a female audience as they tend to watch TV in their spare time whereas men tend to play games.  Due to this, the channel will feature younger people and represent them in a way that they would like to be represented which links to reception theory and the idea of preferred reading.  Secondary Target Audience: The likely secondary target audience would be those who are living in the same household as the primary target audience. This is because whilst the primary target audience may choose to watch my horror channel, others in the household may also choose to watch as well. This i...

Supporting Evidence

Prototype 1: The main image of this poster will be central. It will be of a man standing in the woods between some trees, carrying a hatchet in his hand. The image will be at dusk and will emit an orange glow (suggesting rage) that will cast a shadow of the man. This will suggest to the audience that it is part of the horror genre as it suggests danger which is a convention of this genre.  The title for the channel will be put at the top part of the poster and will be in a red font. It will be in a font that fits the horror theme so that the audience immediately know what the poster is for. Below the title will be a tagline that will get the audience invested in the channel and entice them to watch it. This will all be against a black background to fit with the horror theme and also make the title and tagline stand out for the audience to see.  At the bottom of the poster is where it will feature any extra information to help the audience to find the channel. ...

Horror Poster Analysis

Image
The poster for Friday the 13 th features its main antagonist (Jason) in the centre of the poster. Jason stands front and centre in the poster and this lets everyone know he is the villain in this story.   The title is at the bottom of the poster in blood red almost giving more hints that this will involve multiple killings. Underneath the billing block is the date of release for the film (this is also in blood red to parallel the title) and its release is on February 13 th which falls on Friday and is something purely done for the fans of the franchise.   Around him is a forest that surrounds the area he tends to kill his victims. Forests are common in horror films because they serve for unique ways the killer can obtain their prey and be used for cool and interesting camera shots and scenes using the environment and weather. The poster features mostly black, grey and red with hints of blue suggesting that he only kills at night. These colours are typical for a ...

Horror Channel Analysis

Image
Horror Channel's main image displays the colour red as the main colour that will attract the attention of its audience, this typical from the horror channel because red is always associated with blood and death which is a normal convention of horror. The fact that their attention may be drawn to it, due to the colour, may be intentional to get the channel to be memorable and stay in their head. The primary target audience for the Horror Channel is 15-21 because most of the films that are present on the channel are rated 15 suggesting that is the audience they are looking for. This group of people are more likely to The secondary target audience for this channel would be people who are living in the same household as the primary target audience such as siblings, parents etc. This means that they are likely to watch it with them as they may be in the same room and pay interest in it. Following this, they may choose to tell others about the channel through social interaction (us...

Statement of Intent

Statement of Intent Media Institutions: Harm is a rule set out by the ASA, that states that there should be no harm involved in the advert. This means I will not include any harmful acts in my poster such as someone getting stabbed or a decapitation that would typically feature in a horror film or TV series. Children is another rule set out by the ASA for their advertising regulations and this rule states that there must be not any unsafe practices and unfair pressure. This means that I will not feature any children in the main image of my advert that could suggest them being unsafe. Magazines make their money by selling advertising space in their magazines and this is their revenue streams. The advert will also need to reflect the themes and the genres set out by the magazine so it fits their primary audience which would increase the audience that pay attention to it as it will appeal to them. For example, my advert will be in an entertainment magazine that is aimed at p...
