Timed Essay 6

Both Minecraft and Destiny 2 represent age, gender and class in different ways to appeal to the target audience. In Minecraft, both main characters you can select from are Alex (female) and Steve (male). This shows that there is no bias towards any gender as both are represented. This means that the game is more likely to appeal to any gender and get more players to play. As the game also involves you being creative, this will also mean that it will appeal to both genders as it doesn’t involve things that will only appeal to one gender, such as shooting games. Therefore, this game is universal as anyone can play it and create what they like. Whereas for Destiny 2 the mechanics of the game would appeal to a more male audience as it involves shooting and looting the story associated with the game, many female characters have a very important roles and control over others. Destiny’s next villain Savathun is a strong, manipulative female and is not represented as a stereotypical ...

Newspapers in the UK are likely to be either left or right wing in their ideologies in the way they represent the stories. This means that each story we hear as consumers will be different per newspaper/ article. The first newspapers cover (daily mail) represents the right wing which means that people who prefer to read and agree with right wing beliefs are more likely to read the daily mail as it agrees with its audience (reception theory). The main coverline of the daily mail says, ‘hands off our election’ and this shows that we as English people own our country and should be proud about it. This can be seen as a patriotic move by the daily mail and push their agenda against any foreign outsiders to leave us alone. Binary opposition takes place as it creates a good and evil in this country between the people as this could be against other groups such as labour or any foreign outsider interference and this could spark conflict between the political groups. The news values presented ...

I agree that Multiple narrative strands are the key convention of long form television dramas because they keep the audience entertained from episode to episode. In stranger things the first episode sets up multiple plot lines that the audience will want to continue to follow throughout the seasons. The plot lines set up are Eleven escaping the government, Will going missing and the Demogorgon appearing.  We find out that will has gone missing but the characters recognise (classic Hollywood narrative structure) that later in a sperate scene causing the characters to be confused and wonder what has happened to the friend and they could be used as a ground point for the audience to relate to since we don’t know what really happened apart from he encountered the alien. Will’s character appears briefly in a later scene on the phone to his mum but we and her don’t understand still what’s happened, kids parents are the most likely secondary target audience because quite a few paren...

On the cover of the big issue Trump is in the for front of the cover with the earth next to him with other images in background. The cover takes the mick out of American Politics by having trump with a bigger head than earth which would suggest that his ego is huge and outweighs humanities. Donald J. Trump is a right-wing enthusiast and anyone that is left wing would want to read this as its probably in their interest to read this as it makes fun of the opposite party. The headline of the magazine is very sarcastic about the text by having it say ‘What’s the worst that could happen’ with trump next it, implying that he is the worst thing that can happen. These ideologies would appeal to a left-wing audience (preferred reading- reception theory). Trump is right wing and the big issue is clearly against his political value by making a mockery of him. The other images on the cover include an eagle which is an icon in American history as it represents freedom to the people but on t...

Timed Essay Q2

The Jungle book was originally created in 1967 as an animation film back then because of the technology was not as sophisticated as it is now. The target audience of the film back then was completely different as it was aimed for kids 3-8 year old's whereas the new modern and updated film has a new target audience and is now much broader at 10+ but since the film is a remake of the original it already gets the secondary target audience without Disney doing anything extra to appeal to that audience. That secondary audience is the parents and grandparents of the kids who had watched the original when it released all those years ago (Escapism). The Jungle book in 67 was already a huge success as it was a revolution in the film and Tv in those days, so why wouldn’t Disney want to remake an old classic with updated visuals and effects and increase the profit they gain because they can almost guarantee two distinct audiences will be interested in seeing it.  Disney takes adv...

Timed essay 1 In this essay, I’m going to discuss how audience interaction influences the production of video games. I’m going to use Minecraft for my answer.   Minecraft was made for a very niche audience of gamers who like to explore their creativity and for the programmers who love to mess with game physics and world generation. These gamers and programmers were only playing and using it for its core functionality for entrainment (users and gratifications theory).   These players eventually realised Minecraft’s full potential and started to share the game around with people on the internet and their friends (Social interaction). This helped the developers at the time save money as this acted as free advertisement for the game increase the growth of popularity almost overnight. With new platforms to share content on from Instagram to Facebook, google then created YouTube and this is what Minecraft absolutely blew up on and causing the game to go almost global....

Entertainment Magazine Analysis

Image
The main image is in the centre of the cover with all of the cover lines, not overlapping the main portion of the face. The title of the magazine is in large, bold text at the top of the poster in a font that would typically be associated with he horror genre which will immediately tell the audience what the magazine is going to be based on. It also looks like blood is dripping down from the letters which adds to this association of horror. There is also blood splats throughout the cover to add the same effect.  The magazine cover mainly consists of the colours red and black which are conventionally used in horror as they represent blood and death etc.  The word 'dead' has skulls inside the letters 'D'. This can be used to also add effect to the cover as it also gives visual insights into what is in the magazine other than just the text itself.  This cover also includes a website in the top right to allow the audience to access more information about the magaz...
