On the cover of the big issue Trump is in the for front of the cover with the earth next to him with other images in background. The cover takes the mick out of American Politics by having trump with a bigger head than earth which would suggest that his ego is huge and outweighs humanities. Donald J. Trump is a right-wing enthusiast and anyone that is left wing would want to read this as its probably in their interest to read this as it makes fun of the opposite party. The headline of the magazine is very sarcastic about the text by having it say ‘What’s the worst that could happen’ with trump next it, implying that he is the worst thing that can happen. These ideologies would appeal to a left-wing audience (preferred reading- reception theory). Trump is right wing and the big issue is clearly against his political value by making a mockery of him.

The other images on the cover include an eagle which is an icon in American history as it represents freedom to the people but on top the eagle lies Vladimir Putin which can be taken in two different ways and the first being the author are laughing at him since he has many pictures online of him riding animals but the second being he has links to trump and helped him getting into power in the first place could represent that Putin has a minor sense of power in the states. Whilst Putin is shown to be riding an eagle, lightning bolts (which are commonly associated with chaos) appear all the cover of the magazine suggesting that Putin and Trump are about to cause havoc all around the globe for their benefit only. Trump and Putin are the only people, who are both in power, to be shown on cover and this could be represented as a male dominated society (Gender theory). As gender theory suggests that women have a domestic, consumer or sexual role in society so would not be in power in many countries.

The big issue shows left wing ideologies in this story and this reflects on the way they have represented social, cultural and political events in the magazine.
