Both Minecraft and Destiny 2 represent age, gender and class in different ways to appeal to the target audience.

In Minecraft, both main characters you can select from are Alex (female) and Steve (male). This shows that there is no bias towards any gender as both are represented. This means that the game is more likely to appeal to any gender and get more players to play. As the game also involves you being creative, this will also mean that it will appeal to both genders as it doesn’t involve things that will only appeal to one gender, such as shooting games. Therefore, this game is universal as anyone can play it and create what they like.

Whereas for Destiny 2 the mechanics of the game would appeal to a more male audience as it involves shooting and looting the story associated with the game, many female characters have a very important roles and control over others. Destiny’s next villain Savathun is a strong, manipulative female and is not represented as a stereotypical female of being sexual, marital, consumer or domestic (gender theory). This means that it is likely ton potentially appel to both genders as both genders are being represented in positive ways and not one is more dominant than the other.

For age, Minecraft would appeal to those of any age but especially younger children (7+) as there is no complex systems in the game to learn and it can mean that the player can just be creative and not have to struggle on what to do. It has a creative mode which would be easier for newer and younger players to play as it doesn’t involve crafting anything, whereas if someone wanted something more challenging then they could put it in survival mode, which would likely appeal to an older audience.

Overall, Minecraft and Destiny both appeal in different ways to their audience due to the way they represent age, gender and class.
